I told you about my experience at the medium-end steak restaurants and the cheap steak restaurants.

I saved the best for last.

If you come to Buenos Aires, you MUST splurge on a good steak.  But the great thing is that a splurge here is nowhere near what a good steak dinner would cost you in the US.

La Cabrera

La Cabrera is one of the most popular high-end steak restaurants in Buenos Aires.  You won’t find many locals, but tourists flock there.

I heard of La Cabrera my first week in Buenos Aires back in March when I met a couple in my hostel that chose this restaurant for their steak splurge in this city.  It has continued to come up as the recommended place for steak in Palermo.   In addition to excellent steak, it is known for its friendly, attentive service and the plethora of sides that come with your meal.

Since I have lived just a couple blocks from La Cabrera in two different apartments, I couldn’t leave this city without experiencing this restaurant.

The Meal

There were three of us.  We ordered a provoleta and chorizo to start and then only one ojo de bife (ribeye) and one lomo de bife (filet mignon), knowing that we would also be getting a lot of side dishes.

I was overwhelmed when all the food started coming out.

I could not take pictures fast enough.  This place has awesome service and they know presentation.

The Sides

When I heard that there are good side dishes, I was expecting a big bowl of creamy mashed potatoes and a big bowl of properly-seasoned vegetables because that is about 30 times better than what you would get in any other restaurant in Buenos Aires.

Instead, we got a plethora of mini-side dishes. This photo shows only about 1/3 of them.

La Cabrera definitely won me over when I saw this dish of baked garlic.

The Steak

The steaks were huge.  Even just ordering two steaks for three people was too much (although we did eat it all despite the pain).

The best part….

They were perfectly cooked!

Dessert

After this ginormous meal, we could not even look at a dessert menu.  They brought us these tasty little chocolates and we got our choice of suckers.  So no need to order dessert.

Cost

Splitting a bottle of wine (Las Moras Reserva is quite delicioso), two bottles of water, provoleta, chorizo, two ginormous steaks between three people, a billion side dishes, and three coffees, our meal cost US$52 per person including a well-deserved tip for our server.

Not that expensive for the best steak dinner I have ever had!
