Foto of the Week from … Cabo Froward Trek – The Happy Side
Now that we’ve all had a good laugh over the miseries I suffered trekking to the End of the World, I will share some happy photos.
We awoke on Day 4 worried.
I think we were all afraid (I was certainly terrified) at what Mother Nature may throw at us. Luckily, it was not raining. And after our first early morning river crossing, the sun actually came out to help us warm our numb feet. Day 4 was long and difficult, but it was 100 times better than Day 3.
We awoke on Day 5 hopeful but still not trusting Mother Nature.
It was a beautiful day. We finally saw why people actually put themselves through this rigorous and dangerous trek.
Cabo Froward Trek in Photos … on a Good Day
This is what I saw when I stepped out of my tent on Day 5.
My oatmeal with raisins and peanuts tasted much better than it had the previous 3 mornings.
There were lots of crab shells on the beach.
We even saw dolphins!
The lighthouse.
Even though it hurts, this means were are about halfway through the final day.
Yea! We didn’t die!
My Reward
When we got back to Punta Arenas, we wanted food. And lots of it.
I ate this entire pizza.
I didn’t even feel miserable afterwards. Just satisfied.
If I could go back in time, I would NOT go on this hike even though we did have 1 1/2 days of beautiful views.
Have you had a similar experience where the good did not outweigh the bad?

I’m glad the weather picked up. Nothing much worse than trekking cold and wet for hours. Yeah, I’ll still pass on this one (guess I’m not German enough).

Yo tampoco!

Beautiful! Love the crab shell pic. And I can’t believe you managed to see dolphins to close to shore. But I hear you… based on your last post, no beauty would make up for the pain you went through.

There were so many crab shells all along the beach. Amazing!

Beautiful photos! And I’m so jealous you saw dolphins – any idea what kind they were?

Not a clue. I’m not good about that stuff. I’m lucky if I can name the animal

I loved the view too when I stepped out of my tent. That is when I realized I probably would love through this.

Winter camping in January in New Hampshire. Thirty-five years ago and I still regret it! Frostbite on 9 toes, 1 heel and the ball of 1 foot. Brrrrr. Pretty much everything else, I’d do again.

Hmmm… good question. When it comes to travel experiences, I’m not sure — will have to think about it. But other life experiences? You bet! Although you wouldn’t do it again, you’ve sure had an awesome experience.

Well, my choices were to keep going or die in the wilderness, so I figured I should keep trekking every day

See it wasn’t so bad after all. Dolphins make me happy inside and I would eat that whole pizza too myself after all the trekking and adventures you guys have gone through. Thank you for sharing!

I’m sure there are worse hiking experiences. I just hope I never have one that tops this
The dolphins were pretty cool to see that close to the shore. They were enjoying themselves on this sunny day.

The landscape was gorgeous! The hike was worth it even just because it gave you the chance to be surrounded by such natural wonders!
