Coming back to Columbus after being gone so long is great because I get to go to my favorite restaurants, cafés, and bars.  But what is really fun is checking out all the great new places that have popped up in the last two years and the places I simply missed because I didn’t have the mindset to explore my hometown.

Checking out the great ethnic restaurants with Columbus Food Adventures was a great way to get started.  I want to keep exploring on my own.

A few growing trends I have noticed since I got back are 1) investment in downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods, 2) the local food movement, and 3) creativity and originality.

The Angry Baker

The Angry Baker is a gourmet bakery and café located in Olde Towne East (an historic neighborhood bordering downtown) that checks off all three of these boxes.  I met a friend for breakfast there.  He almost started drooling as he told me about the greatest breakfast sandwich ever.

…aka The Best Breakfast Sandwich Ever

Ham and swiss on brioche French toast covered with maple syrup.

This is worth however many miles I need to run to work it off (I’m guessing ten).

The glass display case is filled with other delectable goodies from vegan muffins to my absolute favorite Carrot Cake Whoopee Pie.

Not too sweet, and you can see the carrot shavings in it. That means it’s healthy, right?

Gotta love homemade, creative treats!

The Angry Baker is located at the corner of Oak and 18th in Olde Towne East.  In addition to the tempting baked treats and fresh breads, they serve breakfast and lunch with a good selection of vegan dishes.
