How to Stay Fit on a Diet of Goat Cheese and Wine in Cafayate
Will all of the goat cheese and wine I have been consuming, I need to get some exercise.
A lot of exercise.
Luckily, Viñas de Cafayate Wine Resort offers complimentary mountain bikes for their guests.
I mentioned before that the bus ride to Cafayate was one of the most beautiful drives I have ever seen. The Quebrada de Las Conchas, also known as the Quebrada de Cafayate, is absolutely stunning.
I of course took photos through the bus window.
Even though this was only a 3.5-4 hour ride, I followed my advice for surviving long bus rides and booked my ticket early enough to get the front seat on the upper deck.
Look closely at the photo below.
Notice that the huge river is going right through the road.
I tried to ask the 100+ year old woman next to me if this just happened with the recent heavy rains, or if this was from another time. She told me two different answers, so I have no clue. I think it had to be recent because the road we took to by-pass this looked recently dug out and was very narrow.

A beautiful bus ride. But I wanted to get some better photos.
And enjoy just being in a place like this by myself.
So I took a bike and went for a ride. I will first say that I do not recommend this ride for most people because it is quite difficult riding against the wind and uphill the entire way. But I have a thing for torturous bike rides.
Normal people will probably prefer to do one of the tours.
Quebrada de Cafayate: My Favorite Photos
Just in case I needed some wine along the way.
Check out more photos from the quebrada here!

Running around a small town gets boring after a few days too.

Beautiful landscape! Judging from your picture, the road which was cut by the river looks quite new, so I guess it’s the recent flood which caused it.

There were other roads washed out in the area for sure, so it’s highly likely. Impressive that they can get a bypass dug out so quickly.

Because of the glossy inks and materials used in photo prints, they are not ideal for recycling with your other paper products. However, throwing them out in the trash will just take up space in a landfill..

Wow the scenery kind of reminds me of Utah or Arizona….definitely not what I think of when I picture Argentina.

I think Argentina is much like the US in that it has so many different types of landscapes. I am pleasantly surprised every time I get to a new place

Sabrina, I would normally agree with you. However, I was so winded and tired at this point, it probably would have just put me to sleep… or made me puke.

How wonderful that there was a possibility to be there by yourself instead of taking a tour.

I really want a bike – such good exercise and a great way to see vast amounts of land like this in a shorter amount of time!

One of the things I really miss about home is my bike. I rode it everywhere, even my last consulting assignment because it was so close.

I totally agree with John – these photos remind me of the Southwest! And the bright blue sky with fluffy white clouds is just perfect.

Your snaps are really fabulous. Wondering how you have taken them so beautifully. A stop for a wine..do really need it on such a marvelous voyage.

Wow… the muddy water really looks like land… good thing you weren’t on the road when the water overtook it! Good job on the biking too. Probably one of those things you are psyched about, then regret, then never forget!

I love bike riding especially in beautiful landscape like this one. Well to be honest I don’t know if i would bear drinking a glass of wine before riding! I totally agree with John that the pics remind Arizona!

I was also surprised to see that it looked similar to the US Southwest.

I need to learn how to bike. I like to walk to most places but I think it would be a great experience to bike. And the pictures are totally stunning!

Thanks, Rashmi. I like walking because you can take more in moving slower. But a bike is great for covering larger spaces but still getting the enjoyment of the scenery around you.

Beautiful photos! I’m a big fan of cycling, but find it can be a bit hampering in terms of carrying my camera gear and stopping to take shots. Great for seeing awesome scenery though.. sometimes it’s nice to leave the camera gear at home
